George Babafemi is a highly accomplished business executive with a strong focus on the fintech industry and a dedication to advancing financial inclusion in Ghana. As the Executive Director of eTranzact Ghana Ltd, an ISO-certified and award-winning company, George has been instrumental in establishing and growing the company since its inception in 2005. Under his leadership, eTranzact has become a key player in Ghana’s fintech sector, providing enhanced payment solutions to numerous commercial banks and financial institutions, and supporting their efforts toward greater financial inclusion and customer satisfaction.
With over 17 years of experience, George is a strategic leader with a proven track record in driving profitability, revenue growth, and industry recognition. He has been pivotal in guiding eTranzact from a startup to maturity, managing cross-functional teams to deliver innovative fintech solutions for both banking and non-banking sectors. His expertise encompasses fintech product development, IT operations, project management, corporate strategy, and compliance. Throughout his career, George has overseen the development of various electronic payment platforms, including white-labeled mobile banking solutions, e-Collection systems, payment card platforms, and pioneering government e-payment initiatives.
George holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria, and an Executive MBA from the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), where he earned the Annual Innovative Award in 2011. He is currently a doctoral candidate at the Nobel International Business School (NiBS) in Accra. To further enhance his leadership and technical skills, he has pursued additional training in IT service delivery and project management. His early education was at Christ Apostolic Church Grammar School (CAPOSTO), where he completed his secondary education between 1981 and 1986.
Recognised as a global thought leader, George served on the Global Advisory Committee of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC). In 2022, he received the Global Excellent Award in Leadership and Youth Development in London for his contributions to the fintech industry and his work mentoring young professionals. Other accolades include the African Hero Award by the Global Skills Hub (UK), the Youth Leadership Development Award by Humanitarian Awards Global (2023), the Distinguished Alumnus Award by the Federal University of Technology Akure’s School of Computing (2024), and the Most Impactful Nigerians in Ghana Award (2024). George is a dual citizen of Nigeria and Ghana.
I am deeply committed to alleviating suffering and contributing through personal social responsibility (PSR) initiatives, especially sufferings that are as a result of ignorance. I support those less privileged by organising self-sponsored knowledge platforms, such as conferences and weekly radio programs. Additionally, I provide a small scholarship program for individuals within my reach, as far as my financial capacity allows.
An advocate for ethical leadership, George actively mentors young professionals, inspiring them through structured programs, conferences, workshops, and forums. He is the founder of “BacktoBaze,” an annual conference focused on mindset renewal and purposeful living. Known as a mentor, counselor, leadership expert, and conference speaker, George is committed to promoting positive change and fulfilling his personal social responsibility.
In line with his commitment to community service, George and his family funded the renovation of the Children’s Ward at Amasaman Hospital in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana in 2019. George is married to Omobolanle Arike (née Akinfenwa), and together they have three children.
